About me
I love to cook and bake; love researching recipes and looking for that combination of ingredients and methods that give the dishes the perfect look, smell, and taste.
I grew up in Singapore, a melting pot of culture and gourmet food. However, I never touched the stove nor oven till I came to the US for undergraduate studies. My cooking journey started when I had to cook for myself after moving out to an apartment.
My discovery that something as simple as a few cloves of garlic can make or break a stir fry dish has spurred my interest to learn more about the different ingredients and the subtle differences they can make to a dish. Cooking and baking have become my favorite past time.
I joined a gourmet club last year. As club member, we take turns to select a theme and host the monthly club event; club members prepare dishes specific to the selected theme. We had themes like Teochew, Fusion Thanksgiving, Charles Dickens Christmas Dinner, Rijstaffel, Taste of Cuba, Kitchen God, Techne, and Brazillian. It has been great fun.
This blog is a food journey back to my childhood in Singapore rediscovering the food that I tasted at home, from the hawker centers in Singapore, and the many experimentation with cooking and baking recipes from other cuisines that I have prepared at home and for the Gourmet Club events.
This blog is also dedicated to my daughters who will soon cook for themselves as they move out to college apartments. I hope they can find the dishes they remembered eating at home and try out the recipes for themselves.
I hope you enjoy viewing this blog as much as I enjoyed preparing, and serving the dishes.
