Dutch Apple Pie

Dutch Apple Pie

Dutch Apple Pie1

The first time I made apple pie was in college after I purchased a Keebler graham ready crust and the ‘Always time for Pie’ recipe book. I love the crumbly topping and the smell of cinnamon as the pie bakes in the oven. It is both sweet and tart, perfect recipe for my taste. It has since become a yearly menu item on our Thanksgiving dinner.

  • Prep Time: 30 mins
  • Bake Time: 55 mins

(A) Filling

  • 1 egg yolk, beaten
  • 5 1/2 cups cooking applies, peeled & sliced (I like to use Fuji Apples)
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup + 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup loosely pack brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

(B) Topping

  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar – 1/2 Tbsp
  • 1/4 cup loosely pack brown sugar – 1/2 Tbsp
  • 1/3 cup butter

(C) 1 Keebler Ready-Crust Graham Cracker Pie Crust

To prepare the topping:

  1. Combine the flour, sugar, brown sugar, and butter with a pastry blender until crumbly. Set aside.

To assemble pie:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Brush the bottom and side of the crust evenly with an egg yolk; bake on baking sheet until light brown, about 5 minutes.
  3. Combine the remaining filling ingredients in a mixing bowl.
  4. Spoon the apple filling into the crust and distribute evenly.
  5. Sprinkle the topping mixture evenly over the apples.
  6. Bake on baking sheet until topping is golden and filling is bubbling.
